AFAIK My site links to the latest version.
... so I think it should get a real place to live in.
There are at least two different pages to get access to archives containing it with different versions (in .zip, .rar and .7z) and partly not compatible with each other
Bulat: would you mind to make clear which one is the right one and maybe link the older pages to point to the newest?
Thank you!
AFAIK My site links to the latest version.
only 2 pages? i think it's not enough to really really obfuscate users
btw, a few weeks ago i found web page that was not updated more than 10 years! it's a bit more that my whole web experience
and it was page of UC2 compressor. what happens with Nico de Vries, anyone know?
ps: i will update old page. thank you

Hello everyone,
*errr*
Im quite sure in the next few days I will be carried out of this forum with my feet in front of my head...
Im not quite sure, but in the zip-file linked from there the arc.ini - file dates from Feb., 21. and the latest should date from Mar, 19. and be a 7z-file...Originally Posted by LovePimple

Ha! I found it: http://www.haskell.org/bz/FreeArc-win32.7z was given by Bulat in http://www.encode.ru/forums/index.php?action=vthre ad&forum=1&topic=391&page=0#msg3056
But it isnt linked anymore, is it? I mean by looking at http://www.haskell.org/bz/
Best regards!
Although arc.ini is different, there is no mention of an "updated" arc.ini file anywhere in that thread. Also, the date of ARC.exe is older than the zipped ARC.exe.Originally Posted by Vacon

arc 0.36 was released feb 22
in march i was updated this version changing only arc.ini file. the new settings should help to better compress MM files (using grzip instead of lzma), but now i can say that sometimes this helps, sometimes doesn't
about arc.exe dates - afaik, both are "1,674,240│22.02.07", the small difference may be due to daylight time offset, which is handled differently in zip and 7z archives
overall, both version are equivalent except for arc.ini change. in future, i will make both 7z and zip distros with the same contents
Hello everyone,
Thank you very much, honestly!Originally Posted by Bulat Ziganshin
Its kind of confusing, when I (anyone) point someone else to your site, he downloads the zip-file and gets different results than me with the 7z-file.
On the other hand: if "different" versions co-exist, they could do so, but are better named different to better distinguish them.
Best regards!
No, this is incorrect.Originally Posted by Bulat Ziganshin

Probably the one with external MM compression!Originally Posted by Bulat Ziganshin

this depends on where you live. seems that zip format saves local time while 7z keeps GMT oneOriginally Posted by LovePimple

Vacon, what date/time do the two ARC.exe files show on your PC?
nnote that these files differs on exactly 2 hours. this says that on your computer local time is gmt+-2
Thanks for the information Bulat!Originally Posted by Bulat Ziganshin
I didnt know this.

Seems true. My time is GMT+1. Zip shows 1:19, while 7z shows 0:19Originally Posted by Bulat Ziganshin

Hello everyone,
Sorry for delay, but my wife has caught an illness, so besides my "normal" real life, Ive got to (and want to!!!) deal with her to get her back in place! Priority -> non_plus_ultra!Originally Posted by LovePimple

Just got around to testing it.Originally Posted by LovePimple

It is a LZ77-Huffman coder. In max compression mode it is right between tornado and thor with much less memory (3.5 MB) but a little slower. But I found the self extracting archive feature failed on enwik9, chopping off the last 21 bytes. Too bad because the self extracting programs are smaller even with the attached decompressor. Normal decompression worked OK.

i tried few times to works with freearc, but i dont' know where to get the switches i have a .doc with a lot of "????" but helps nothig i read the "help" of the arc.exe and i see:
"-mMETHOD --method=METHOD" wich method?
how many methods i have? witch switches can i use? how works the .ini?
I really miss examples and a "real" explanation how it works and how to use, looks a ffmpeg project, works great but the documentation it's 0
Thanks!
i'm sorry but docs are still in russian and unfinished. it's why i never advertized it in english forums.
nevertheless many freearc options are just copied from rar. you may look its docs (rar.txt, because rar.hlp doesn't document all options).
-m switch has -m1..-m7 variants. -m7 requires 1gb of memory for both compression and decompression and slowest but provides best compression. -m6 requires 512mb and so on...
btw, you can use --display option to see mem reqs when performing compression
there are also -m1x..-m8x switches that use the same amount of memory for compression but much less for decompression. also decompression is faster, but compression is slower and worser compared to corresponding -mN methods
A temporary solution to this problem![]()
