    7-Zip 4.58 beta (New)
    By: Igor Pavlov (ipavlov) - 2008-05-05 01:16
    7-Zip 4.58 beta was released.

    What's new after 7-Zip 4.57:
    - Some speed optimizations.
    - 7-Zip now can unpack .lzma archives.
    - Unicode (UTF- support for filenames in .ZIP archives. Now there are 3 modes:
    1) Default mode: 7-Zip uses UTF-8, if the local code page doesn't contain required symbols.
    2) -mcu switch: 7-Zip uses UTF-8, if there are non-ASCII symbols.
    3) -mcl switch: 7-Zip uses local code page.
    - Now it's possible to store file creation time in 7z and ZIP archives (-mtc switch).
    - 7-Zip now can unpack multivolume RAR archives created with
"old style volume names" scheme and names *.001, *.002, ...
    - Now it's possible to use -mSW- and -mSW+ switches instead of -mSW=off and -mSW=on
    - Some bugs were fixed.
    - New localizations: Punjabi (Indian), Pashto.

Is there also a portable (stand alone) version (7za.exe) available from this alpha ? It's more convenient for testing...

Typically he puts one there, he just doesn't announce / link to it too publicly! Just add an 'a' before 45x and s/\.exe/\.zip/ and you'll usually find it.

    LZMA future

I plan to include Delta filter for WAV when LZMA2 will be included. Delta filter is not so good as special WAV-compressor, but it's better than nothing.

    7-Zip 4.59 alpha 6 was released.

    7-Zip for 32-bit Windows:
    http://www.7-zip.org/alpha/7z459a6.exe

    7-Zip for 64-bit Windows x64:
    http://www.7-zip.org/alpha/7z459a6-x64.msi

    What's new after 7-Zip 4.59 alpha 5:
    - Some changes in 7-Zip File Manager.
    - Some bugs were fixed.

    1) New version compresses slightly better to 7z/LZMA in fast mode.

    2) 7-Zip can open EXE/DLL, ELF and Mach-O files, so it's possible to view some attributes of these files.

    3) When you extract/test split archives like a.7z.001, 7-Zip checks that both levels (.001 and .7z) are OK.

    4) When the are no selected files, 7-Zip File Manager extracts all files of folder. And now you need less clicks to extract all files after archive opening.

    5) 7-Zip File Manager shows some additional information about files in "Copy" and "Combine files" dialog boxes.

Don't use this alpha version for important data. Call "Test" command after each compressing operation.

I'm really sorry, but how to use it? I did everything - copied it into %windir%\system32, %programfiles%\7-zip, tried copying 7z.exe and 7z.dll into its path, moved the archive - it always says
    Code:
    Ultra7z Optimizer 0.01
    7-Zip 4.57 Copyright (c) 1999-2007 Igor Pavlov 2007-12-06
    http://www.7-zip.org
    Ultra7z Optimizer 0.01 (c) 2008 Alexey Dubrovsky
Use it carefully! Please create backup copy before use it.
Please verify content of each archive.
    Example - ultra7z archive_name
    archive_name - 7z, zip, rar (formats supported by 7-zip)...
Системе не удается найти указанный путь.
Системе не удается найти указанный путь.
"Системе не удается найти указанный путь." means "Cannot find the specified path".

I tested on a larger achive(~5.5Mb) and it worked fine, the one above was ~140Kb. I can provide it for you if that'll help, it's only sbc.exe and a text file

I've finally found my bug: the temp path contained spaces, and the .bat file, which was created each time the program was launched, didn't contain the quotes to sustain this. I have also traversed the .bat file and decided that I'd better change my environment variable %temp% than this file

I think nearly the same I can reach with this two commands

    7z a test.7z dir -xr@listfile.txt
    7z u -m0=PPMd test.7z dir

the listfile.txt specifies the extensions which should be archived with PPMd. I used modified arc.groups

    Ultra7z Optimizer 0.03
Added file "ultra7zs.exe" - It's version without "7z.exe" and "7z.dll". You need copy these 2 files in PATH folder (for example, in "c:\windows").

    7-Zip 4.62 Final (2008-12-02)
    - Some bugs were fixed.
    What's new after 7-Zip 4.57:

    - 7-Zip now supports LZMA compression for .ZIP archives.
    - 7-Zip now can unpack UDF, XAR and DMG/HFS archives.
    - 7-Zip File Manager now keeps encryption when you edit encrypted file inside archive.
    - 7-Zip File Manager now allows to change current folder from the address bar drop-down list.
    - It's allowed to use -t switch for "list" and "extract" commands.
    - New localizations: Punjabi (Indian), Pashto, Sinhala, Icelandic, Kurdish Sorani.

I'm filing a bug-report here instead of sourceforge because I have an account here.

I just lost a 66MB 7-zip archive when I tried to rename a file inside it. I had another instance of 7-zip open with that same archive when I tried doing so. 7-zip afforded me the error message: "Cannot access file" or something like that, probably because the other instance was open. This is to be expected.

However, when I checked on the file, it was 32bytes, and all of its contents were gone. This was very shocking and frustrating, and the contents had completely vanished. This is a huge security flaw in 7-zip file manager.

Ok I will try to reproduce it and then write to the sourceforge forum.

    EDIT:
Please try reproducing this behavior. I couldn't! I opened some files twice and yeah I got the message but the file wasn't changed.
