    Lempel Ziv

    What is the latest algorithm of lempel ziv family ?
    Plz give some exmple .
    Is LZW better than LZ77 ? what is the current condition of LZW?
    I am new in this area .plz help.

    LZW (the specific algorithm, like one used in gif) is worse than LZ77.
    LZ78 in general is better. LZ77 is actually a subset of LZ78, because we can treat distance;length pair codes as symbol codes for LZ78.

    Then, there're also LZP, ROLZ, PPM.
    Real PPM (with escapes) can be also viewed as LZ implementation, because it has literals (as order-(-1))
    and match lengths (unary coded via escapes). There's no explicit distance, but LZP/ROLZ also don't have much of these.

    Latest popular algorithm is zstd I suppose.
